![]() BENCHMARKS DELETED GEEKBENCH OVER CHEATING SOFTWAREThere is a lot of software out there that can read your mail, read your emails, read your internet browsing history, and even read your phone call history. This, too, is becoming too easy for the NSA and others to take advantage of. The problem is that by deleting programs, the users are giving up their privacy. BENCHMARKS DELETED GEEKBENCH OVER CHEATING PCThis is a problem that’s only going to get worse since the PC has become too complex to be simple. The problem, as it turns out, was that Microsoft was doing this without consulting the users. This was not a problem Microsoft was going to solve because the problem was in the programming and not the programs themselves. In a recent case where Microsoft had a problem with its Office suite, they sent out a letter to the users of Microsoft’s productivity suite to inform them that their programs had been deleted by the program. A well-known example of a problem that is caused by a lack of standards regarding testing, is the case of Microsoft’s Office. In fact, it’s a problem in nearly every industry. These benchmarks have been used by reviewers and reviewers in turn have been used by companies who use the benchmarks to decide which processor to sell to the public. ![]() The benchmarks are owned by a group of enthusiasts that use the benchmarks as a way to brag about their PC. Many of them use the benchmarks to show off their PC and sometimes even take them away from the PC manufacturers to use for personal use. That being said, many of the benchmarks I test for my website and others are run by a group of hobbyists. I’ve been testing a number of processors for over a year and I can tell you without a doubt that the CPU performance benchmark used by companies is garbage. And Samsung’s response only addressed game throttling. The Geekbench benchmark for CPU performance is currently set to be used by manufacturers, not by consumers. What’s annoying is that the phones throttle all apps, not just games. We already explained that GOS throttles apps to prevent overheating and battery life issues. BENCHMARKS DELETED GEEKBENCH OVER CHEATING UPDATEA fix is coming via a software update in the future to let users prioritize performance. The company did not address the finding that the Galaxy S22 cheated in benchmark tests like Geekbench. Samsung has already acknowledged the app throttling issue without going into much detail about the GOS behavior. Geekbench’s action won’t impact the functionality of the Galaxy S22 in any way. This indicates an apparent attempt to mislead buyers.ĭelisting phones that cheat in benchmark tests is just a symbolic gesture. However, Samsung exempted benchmark apps from GOS throttling. For example, Galaxy S22 lost miserably in benchmark tests against the iPhone 13 series, including Geekbench 5. And customers can use them to compare different devices. But they exist to inform users objectively about the hardware capabilities of one smartphone compared to others. Geekbench delisted both devices.īenchmark apps do not tell the whole story about smartphone performance. ![]() OnePlus was caught throttling apps on the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. This isn’t the first time Geekbench has taken action against a smartphone vendor. Image source: Samsung Why the Geekbench Galaxy S22 ban matters We view this as a form of benchmark manipulation as major benchmark applications, including Geekbench, are not throttled by this service. GOS decides to throttle (or not to throttle) applications using application identifiers and not application behavior. That’s why it’s taking action against Samsung.Įarlier this week, we were made aware of Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service (GOS) and how it throttles the performance of games and applications. The list includes the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, and Galaxy S10 devices.Ī Geekbench spokesperson explained that phones like the Galaxy S22 manipulate benchmark results. The penalty also concerns other Samsung phones that throttle apps. BENCHMARKS DELETED GEEKBENCH OVER CHEATING ANDROIDGeekbench confirmed to Android Police that it will delist Samsung’s Galaxy 22 phones from the Geekbench Browser test. But a phone that throttles app experiences will not offer the user access to that peak performance. But the app throttling doesn’t impact benchmark apps like Geekbench 5.Īs a result, the benchmark scores can be misleading, as they determine the maximum performance of a phone. The action follows the discovery that a preloaded app on the Galaxy S22 and other phones can slow down the performance of about 10,000 apps. BENCHMARKS DELETED GEEKBENCH OVER CHEATING SERIESPopular benchmark app Geekbench confirmed it banned the Galaxy S22 series and other Samsung phones found to be cheating in benchmark apps. ![]()
